With more than 30 years’ experience of intellectual property law Mats has assisted companies globally with strategies, protection, enforcement and valuation of their intellectual property assets such as patents, trademarks, designs, copyright etc.

Global major companies such as Ericsson, SKF, GSK, Mars Ltd, Vattenfall as well as startups have consulted with Mats to build value in their companies via IPR (Intellectual Property Rights).

Mats has been managing the Law & Trademark Department as well being the CEO of Groth & Co, a major IP Law firm in Sweden. 

Mats has lectured on EU Law and IP Law at the University of Uppsala/International Trade Law and also assisted the Swedish Patent and Registration Office in their education programs. He has been lecturing at the Swedish Parliament on intellectual property rights and export strategies.

Mats is named by Who’s Who Legal as one of Sweden’s leading trademark lawyers, and he has also been named an IP Star and a Global Leader by Managing Intellectual Property, MIP and WTR World Trademark Review since 2015.

He has written several articles, including on brand valuation and the development of the EU trademark, and is one of the authors of the book “The Risks of Trademarks, Products, and Advertising” from 2011 and 2018.

For 25 years Mats has acted as moderator during the Trademark Day seminars in Stockholm.

He has been the chairman of the Swedish Patent Law Firms Association and for many years also represented Sweden in the council of ECTA (European Trade Mark Association). 

Mats has extensive experience in board work across various environments, including an IP law firm, as well as different start-ups and SaaS companies, and even non-profit organizations. Today, Mats is actively involved in board work for, among others, the Stockholm Intellectual Property Law Review, which is affiliated with the law program at Stockholm University.

Since January 2025 Mats is working as Special Counsel at Onsagers Sweden AB in Stockholm where he supports the continued development and expansion of Onsagers’ operations in Sweden.
